April CAS Watercolor Challenge

Happy April! The rains here in California created gorgeous wildflower fields all over the state. Our poppies (state flower) are all in bloom too. Since it is the start of a new month we have a new CAS Watercolor Challenge for you - Green & Pink.

I created two cards using the same Penny Black Brush Stroke Stamp and two different watercolor methods. The first one was using my Tombow markers and huffing on the marker before stamping. I used two shades of each color and laid down the lightest on the entire image, and stamped, then highlighted with the darker shade and stamped again. I used my MISTI of course!

For this second card I used my Zig Clean Color Brush Markers and painted right onto the image using the lighter shades first, then highlighting with the darker shade like I did with the Tombow markers. I didn't have to huff on the image since these are wetter markers and the colors blended more easily.

I like how they both came out. Do you like one better than the other?

CAS Watercolor Card Challenge - November Mid Month Reminder - TEXT

I am back again for the mid month reminder and sample for the CAS Watercolor Card Challenge for November. Here is my sample:

These Penny Black brush images are so easy to make a watercolored card. I colored the image with distress markers and the MISTI. I used 2 colors of purple and 2 colors of green, one color at a time, misted with water and stamped. Each layer was still damp when I stamped over it so the colors would blend.  I used some MME patterned paper for the text and blended distress ink to match the flower. The border of the card front was cut with a Penny Black border die.

Happy Birthday

This is my second submission for the new challenge blog - The Flower Challenge - Anything Goes.

I used Distress markers and Distress ink cubes to try to make a layered colored look to the flowers and leaves. After coloring onto the stamp with the distress inks I spritzed with a bit of water and stamped. Once dry, I colored over the leaves and flowers with Distress markers in the same colors.

Playing with Altenew - Majestic Blooms

I went to visit my stamping friends Sheri and Georgia in Omaha for a week in Sept and we played a lot with our Altenew stamps and inks. Below is a card I made using the Majestic Blooms set. I used Zig Clean Color Brush pens to water color the line art image:

I used two step stamping leaves from the Vintage Flowers set. The sentiment is from Penny Black.

Poppy Gems with Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers

I have been wanting to try using my Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers to paint flowers since I saw Kristina Werner's post here.  I used Poppy Gems by Penny Black and embossed the image with white embossing powder. I then colored in the flowers using the same colors that Kristina used. I colored over the flowers with a Clear Wink of Stella Glitter pen for some shimmer.  Mine came out differently but I learned a lot about using some colors together that I never would have tried!

Poppy Gems

I finally used this Penny Black Poppy Gems image. The color challenge at SCS this week is Cucumber Crush, Sahara Sand and Real Red. Perfect colors for poppies! I stamped the image with Versafine Onyx Black and colored it in with my Derwent Inktensse pencils and a waterbrush. I used a strip of PaperTrey patterned paper and adhered it and the image to black card stock.

Vellum Overlay

Here is another card I created for my Clear and Sheer class.  This is a case copy of this card by Lai-Yoke.  I left off the sentiment until I decide what I will use this for.

I watercolored the Penny Black flower image on water color paper with my Zig Clean Color Brush pens. The front of the card was created by heat embossing the same image with white embossing powder onto heavy weight vellum.

I am also submitting this card to Simon says Stamp (Anything Goes), House of Cards (Sheer papers), CAS Mix Up (Stamping, Heat Embossing + one other media) and the Penny Black Challenge (Anything Goes).

Penny Black Butterfly Die

I made this card for two challenges. The SCS Inspiration Challenge was to find inspiration from the Etsy store The Wildlands. I chose the butterfly painting. I also created this for the Penny Black Saturday challenge - Anything Goes.  I used the negative space of the Penny Black Butterfly die cut mask on the card front and watercolored it with Koi watercolors. After removing the mask I used the watercolors to create splatters. I happened to have a plaid background left over from a class and the colors looked good so I used that as an accent. I added rhinestones for a bit of texture.

Poppies a la O'Keefe

I have been catching up on making cards for the SCS Hope You Can Cling To (HYCCT) challenges. There is one challenge every day of October. We make the cards to send to MD Anderson Cancer Clinic in Texas for the patients and their families to use.  I have two more to do to catch up and I will post pictures of my cards here when I get the chance.  Today's challenge was to create a card inspired by famous paintings.  I love Georgia O'Keefe's paintings, especially her poppies. So I used my Penny Black Poppies stamp and colored it with Copic markers. I used the sketch from Sunday Stamps Challenge blog:

Just a Note

I created this card for a few challenges: The SCS color challenge was to use Wisteria, Coral and Saffron.  I used the sketch from Karen Giron's Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge for the layout and I was inspired by the Runway Inspired Challenge to use these Penny Black flowers (and the colors in the dress are close to the SCS challenge colors!  ETA: I meant to submit this earlier to the Penny Black and More Challenge for August: Summer Flowers.

I watercolored the flowers with Distress Inks and a paint brush.  The patterned paper is from paperTrey and I watercolored a piece of Tim Holtz card stock with the distress ink for the vertical strip so it would match the flowers.  The sentiment is from Reverse Confetti.  I colored all of the flowers with a clear Wink of Stella glitter pen.

Online Card Class: Background Check

I'm taking another Online Card Class this week and the subject is Backgrounds.  Here is the first card I created using techniques from both Jennifer's and Kristina's lessons.

The poppy flower is a stencil from Penny Black. I used Distress inks on the flower.  Then with the stencil in place I overlaid a Heidi Swapp stencil that was misted with water and perfect pearls to remove some of the ink.  Then I watercolored the background with distress inks and lots of water and a paint brush, drying the ink in between layers.

I was just playing last night and made this card.  I used a background stamp from Darice and heat embossed it with white embossing powder on water color paper.  Then I water colored it with distress inks smooshed onto an acrylic block.  I had this iris already cut on my desk - love using my "card parts".  The iris die cut is from Penny Black and the Thanks die cut is from Winnie & Walter.

Penny Black Monthly Challenge

I found a new to me monthly challenge:

I love my PB flower cling stamps so I had to give this challenge a go!

I used water color pencils and an aquabrush to color this one layer card.  The sentiment is from Winnie & Walter.

The first two pages here were created by stenciling an entire A2 size card stock panel with distress inks.  I cut off a portion to create two journal entries.  I used the Penny Black hot air balloons and a sentiment from Winnie & Walter with Versafine Onyx Black ink.  The line art flowers are from Rubbernecker and the sentiment is from TJ Designs.  The third page is a mixed media piece.  I stamped the Hero Art feathers with Versafine Onyx Black ink and water colored the large one with Koi water colors.  I then used distress ink to stencil the background.

Visual Art Journal Days 4 and 5 - Shabbat

Our fourth day was Friday, July 3 and the camp gets ready for Shabbat (Sabbath) which starts at sundown.  We don't have work or classes on Saturday because the Sabbath is a day of rest.  But after services on Saturday morning we had free time so I opened up the art room to those campers that wanted to relax and play.  Their journal prompt for Friday's journaling was to display through watercoloring and journaling how Shabbat makes them feel. Another prompt was what colors represent how they feel about Shabbat or how Shabbat makes them feel.  Below are my journal entries:

The first page was watercoloring with markers directly onto a Penny Black stamp, misted with water and then stamped.  The next page was watercoloring with a stencil - I applied distress inks right onto a stencil, misted it with water and then "stamped" with it onto the page.  The two pages with the Clearly Besotted tulip image was demonstrating watercoloring in the lines and then no line watercoloring.  Lastly I created a background using Color Bursts and Brushos and then stamped the Rubbernecker flowers with Versafine Onyx Black ink and used washi tapes to adhere the panel to the journal page.
